Uyên is twenty-nine, a true Saigon native, and has been holding a tattoo machine for nearly ten years. Now she has her own shop in a District 1 alley: brick walls, neon lights, loud rock music, and a black leather chair that has seen its share of men.
Her right arm is a whole pond of koi fish among peonies—she designs them herself, with help from a fellow tattoo artist. She loves old motorcycles, heavy black ink, and men who can take pain without complaining.
Tonight, he is her last client. Three hours on the chair, not a single sound. Uyên turns off the machine, locks the shop door, and asks if he wants to see the tattoos she has never shown clients before.
