She likes men who know how to sit still and listen. She likes gin and tonic, the night breeze, and the distant hum of motorbikes below. She flirts the way she sings: slow, holding the breath, then letting the last word fall exactly where it belongs.
Tonight the club empties early. The band has gone, leaving only the old microphone and him. Bea sits down beside him, peels off her gloves one finger at a time, and asks a simple question: what song do you want to hear?
